چکیده

The paper presents a convergence analysis of a multigrid solver for a system of linear algebraic equations resulting from the disretization of a convection-diffusion problem using a finite element method. We consider piecewise linear finite elements in combination with a streamline diffusion stabilization . We analyze a multigrid method that is based on canonical inter-grid transfer operators, a “direct discretization” approach for the coarse-grid operators and a smoother of lineJacobi type. A robust (diffusion and h-independent) bound for the contraction number of the two-grid method and the multigrid W-cycle are proved for a special class of convection-diffusion problems, namely with Neumann conditions on the outflow boundary, Dirichlet conditions on the rest of the boundary and a flow direction that is constant and aligned with gridlines. Our convergence analysis is based on modified smoothing and approximation properties. The arithmetic complexity of one multigrid iteration is optimal up to a logarithmic term. On the natural stabilization of convection diffusion problems using LPIM meshless method

By using the finite element $p$-Version in convection-diffusion problems, we can attain to a stabilized and accurate results. Furthermore, the fundamental of the finite element $p$-Version is augmentation degrees of freedom. Based on the fact that the finite element and the meshless methods have similar concept, it is obvious that many ideas in the finite element can be easily used in the meshl...

Navier-Stokes Equations in Rotation Form: A Robust Multigrid Solver for the Velocity Problem

The topic of this paper is motivated by the Navier–Stokes equations in rotation form. Linearization and application of an implicit time stepping scheme results in a linear stationary problem of Oseen type. In well-known solution techniques for this problem such as the Uzawa (or Schur complement) method, a subproblem consisting of a coupled nonsymmetric system of linear equations of diffusion-re...

Coupling Nonlinear Element Free Galerkin and Linear Galerkin Finite Volume Solver for 2D Modeling of Local Plasticity in Structural Material

This paper introduces a computational strategy to collaboratively develop the Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) as one of the most straightforward and efficient explicit numerical methods to solve structural problems encountering material nonlinearity in a small limited area, while the remainder of the domain represents a linear elastic behavior. In this regard, the Element Free Galerkin met...

An Efficient Parallel Multigrid Solver for 3-D Convection-dominated Problems

Multigrid algorithms are known to be highly efficient in solving systems of elliptic equations. However, standard multigrid algorithms fail to achieve optimal grid-independent convergence rates in solving non-elliptic problems. In many practical cases, the non-elliptic part of a problem is represented by the convection operator. Downstream marching, when it is viable, is the simplest and most e...
